Detailed Description

The Human Rights Educators USA (HRE USA) is now accepting applications for the 2022-23 Flowers Fund to support innovation and mentorship in human rights education (HRE) in the United States.

He fund aims to encourage new philosophic and theoretical thinking, new pedagogies, and new outreach methods for HRE, as well as emerging leadership in the field.

The Flowers Fund will consider applications in areas such as research in human rights education, travel to attend HRE conferences, encouragement of emerging leadership, and innovative projects that expand the scope and understanding of HRE and/or extend the audience for HRE.

Areas of Support

  • All applications should have direct relevance to human rights education (HRE) in the United States. In support of innovation and mentorship, The Flowers Fund will consider projects such as research in human rights education, travel to attend HRE conferences and innovative projects that expand the scope and understanding of HRE and/or extend the audience for HRE.
  • The Flowers Fund does not support undergraduate or graduate tuition fees, the purchase of equipment, or organizational operating costs.

Funding Information

  • Grants ranging from $500 – $1,000, representing no more than 20% of the fund total, will be made every calendar year.
  • Awards are determined by the Flowers Fund Committee of Human Rights Educators USA (HRE USA), which meets annually to consider applications.
  • This Committee determines the number of grants made in any year

Eligibility Criteria

  • Grants may be made to individuals and organizations that are members of HRE USA and directly engaged in human rights education in the United States.

Applicants might include:

  • undergraduate and graduate students
  • current and retired teachers at any academic level
  • staff members of organizations engaged in human rights education
  • human rights activists
  • Grant recipients from the Flowers Fund are ineligible to reapply for 12 months following receipt of a grant.
