About the Opportunity

What is the Community Health Impact Coalition?

The Community Health Impact Coalition (www.CHWimpact.org) is making professional community health workers (CHWs) a norm worldwide by changing guidelines, funding, and policy. We are a network of CHW advocates (CHWs and aligned health delivery organizations) in 40+ countries that works to ensure CHWs get the fair pay, skills, supplies, and support they need so everyone can have access to high quality healthcare. We are building the collective action networks required to (i) conduct large-scale research on the practices that enable better community-based care to reach more people and (ii) ensure those practices get adopted by health systems everywhere.

For whom are we looking?

The Coalition is recruiting a Communications Manager to design and operationalize the Coalition’s global communications strategy; produce external-facing communication materials that meet our high standards for technical rigor, clarity, and persuasiveness; and launch global campaigns that accelerate our advocacy objectives. The successful candidate will work with Coalition members, allies, and CHWs to lead communications efforts that advance the urgent policy, advocacy, and strategic communications objectives of the Community Health Impact Coalition.

  • Design and operationalize the Coalition’s first-ever global communications strategy & workplan
  • Produce external-facing communications collateral that meets the Coalition’s high standards for technical rigor, clarity, and persuasiveness
  • Launch global campaigns (~4-5/year) to disseminate Coalition-led research and drive overall advocacy objectives

Position Information

  • Term: Full-time position
  • Location: Remote (please note: you should have at least 4 hours of workday overlap with the CST timezone)
  • Reports to: Deputy Director
  • Compensation: Grade 2, Band 2/3

Core Responsibilities

Own Communications Strategy & Workplan

  • Extend and operationalize the Coalition’s communication strategy that targets key audiences globally—including policymakers, technical staff in Ministries of Health, partner organizations, and funders.
  • Develop and maintain a communications work plan, editorial calendar, events calendar, and social media strategy to support strategic planning of communication efforts; proactively identify new communication opportunities and materials.
  • Coordinate the Coalition’s communications activities with members, allies, and external partners such as the Johnson and Johnson Partner Communications Network.

Develop Communications Collateral

  • Draft external-facing communications collateral that tells the story of the Coalition’s work and impact, advances target policy changes, and positions the Coalition as a technical expert in and ferocious advocate for professional community health workers.
  • Develop, write, and edit communications materials, including blogs/articles, briefs, fact sheets, brochures, powerpoint presentations, press releases, case studies, and social media messages.
  • Support production of quarterly and annual reports, including story gathering, writing, and graphic design.
  • Liaise with Coalition members and allies to identify success stories, key learnings, and programmatic milestones to document for communication materials.
  • Own and drive the Coalition’s social media engagement across multiple channels including Twitter, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and Instagram; gather and create social media content to position CHIC, drive website traffic, and build brand and issue awareness.
  • Maintain digital media archives, including photos and videos.
  • Elevate the voice and expertise of CHW Advocates by polishing opinion pieces at opportune moments, prepping them for speaking engagements, and drafting speeches and talking points for events.

Manage Campaigns and Events

  • Get journalists excited about Coalition reports and research by identifying the right media contacts, drafting compelling pitches and press releases and building relationships with reporters and major outlets.
  • Follow and track trends in media coverage, key announcements, new evidence and high-level conversations that may impact Coalition campaign priorities.
  • Develop multimedia collateral in Canva, VistaCreate/Crello, or equivalent platform to support campaigns and events.
  • Track analytics and create reports detailing the success and reach of communications campaigns, as well as areas for improvement.
  • Support event planning and execution; develop talking points and prep speakers, coordinate media engagement, ensure organizational brand placement, and capture key takeaways for social media.
  • In collaboration with program teams, create conference abstracts and presentations for stakeholder meetings and conferences.

Required Qualifications

  • Communication: You are an excellent writer. You excel at distilling complex concepts into 180-character talking points. You possess excellent English language writing and editing skills. French is a big plus.
  • Attention to Detail: You consistently deliver error-free work. You do not let important details slip through the cracks or derail a project.
  • Proactivity: You are a manager of one. You proactively identify problems and seek out solutions, then act thoughtfully without needing to wait for instruction. You thrive in settings that require you to work independently with minimal direction and under tight deadlines.

  • Connections to Major Media Outlets: You have relationships with journalists and/or major media outlets and know how to pitch to them. You have previous work experience in communications, public relations, or journalism, preferably in global health.
