Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Policy Analysis and Development Branch of the Financing for Sustainable Development Office (FSDO) in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), The Financing for Sustainable Development Office provides effective secretariat support for sustained follow-up to and implementation of the outcomes of the International Conferences on Financing for Development and the delivery of the means of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The incumbent reports to the Chief of Policy Analysis and Development Branch of the Financing for Sustainable Development Office. ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the Chief of Policy Analysis and Development Branch, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
• Carries out research and policy analysis on issues relating to Financing for Development;
• Monitors and assesses international policy developments on FfD issues;
• Monitors economic developments and identifies recurrent and emerging issues related to other thematic areas of the Monterrey Consensus, Doha Declaration and Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development and related outcomes;
• Designs and conducts studies of selected issues in Financing for Development;
engage in economic analysis; draft inputs to the Inter-Agency Task Force on Financing for Development Report, annual reports of the Secretary-General on follow-up to the Financing for Development Conferences, other analytical studies, technical papers and publications;
• Organizes expert group meetings, seminars, etc. on the topics related to FfD, including drafting reports, overseeing and engaging in note-taking, and overseeing and offering administrative support as needed;
• Prepares speeches and other inputs for presentations on topics related to the FfD process and related areas by senior staff;
• Provides substantive support to the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, and services inter-agency meetings within the FfD follow-up process, as requested;
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Chief, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of FSDO’s outputs;
• Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally.

EducationAdvanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in economics, taxation or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work ExperienceA minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required.
Experience in research and analysis on Financing for Development issues is desirable.
LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
AssessmentEvaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice• This position is temporarily available for six months, with a possibility of extension. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
