About the Role

Sustainalytics is seeking an ESG analyst to join its Mining ESG research team. This new position presents an exciting opportunity to conduct company ESG analysis that will form a part of our flagship ESG Risk Rating. Investment professionals and corporates leverage the ESG Risk Rating and its underlying research to enhance investment processes and corporate ESG performance. The role involves ESG risk and controversy analysis for companies, contributing to investor and corporate client meetings, and providing insights for thought leadership and other use cases of analysts’ expertise. You will join a growing and strategically important team and contribute to the development of a vibrant community of sector analysts. You will engage in training and development programmes which support your career development to become a top ESG analyst. The ideal candidate should have both a background in capital markets and sectoral expertise.


Job Responsibilities

• Research, analyze and rate the ESG risks and involvement in controversies of companies in the global Mining sector
• Prepare and publish company ESG Risk Rating reports used by investor and corporate clients
• Research and track ESG trends and issues relevant within the sector
• Contribute to responding to client queries and support clients in integrating your research insights into their investment decision-making and ESG performance
• Contribute to the development of intellectual capital and provide insights that feed into internal and external thought leadership



• Graduate degree in a related discipline (business, finance, environment and/or social science)
• Knowledge of the Mining sector: diversified mining, precious metals, steel, or aluminum industries. Relevant alternative extractives industries knowledge, such as oil and gas or forestry will be considered.
• ESG certifications considered an asset
• At least 2 years of relevant work experience
• Knowledge and understanding of the financial services industry SRI/RI market and related ESG aspects
• Capital markets background is considered an asset
• Excellent research, analytical and writing capabilities
• Presentation skills (both in spoken and written formats), e.g. ppt skills, client interaction skills
• Effective planning and time-management skills
• Resourceful, flexible, driven and self-motivated
• Ability to work and adapt in a rapidly changing environment and embrace innovation
