Job Description

What is the opportunity?

 

To lead the team with responsibility to continue to enhance an effective, integrated, proactive and risk-based program for the management of regulatory, compliance and reputational risk for RBC’s businesses based in the Channel Islands aligned to the RBC Global Compliance Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) controls and standards. This will include accountability for the quality and consistency of compliance performance under all relevant governing laws, regulations, directives, standards and guidelines in relation to businesses across the Channel Islands in relation to Regulatory Compliance and the continued development of a regulatory compliance strategy for RBC in the Channel Islands aligned to RCM and responsibility for assessing and managing the inherent regulatory compliance risks, including being accountable for instilling within the businesses the central role they play as the First Line of Defence (‘1LOD’) and in ensuring that RBC complies with its regulatory obligations and ethical standards. This will involve maintaining constructive and strong working relationships with management within the businesses all relevant regulators that impact RBC’s businesses in the Channel Island.

 

What will you do?

 

  • Lead the WMI Regulatory Compliance team based in the Channel Islands, being the CI Advisory and Monitoring and Testing teams
  • Be accountable for the maintenance and continued development of a compliance framework covering RBC’s businesses in the Channel Islands in accordance with applicable banking, securities, fiduciary and funds laws / regulations and Global RBC compliance standards, including the identification and assessment of applicable regulatory and compliance risk, ensuring the RBC Group RCM Framework is appropriately implemented across the relevant businesses within the Channel Islands, the design and maintenance of policies and procedures to address identified risks, and appropriate training and monitoring programmes
  • Escalate significant regulatory and compliance risk issues and deficiencies to relevant business executives, operating committees, boards of directors and European Head of Wealth Management Compliance and ensure that appropriate remediation programmes are in place to address issues;
  • Responsible for team management of the regulatory compliance team in the Channel islands, including proactively assessing and addressing team execution priorities and resources and proactive performance management of team members
  • Accountable for the establishment and maintenance of positive and satisfactory relationships with applicable regulators.
  • Accountable for ensuring processes are in place to identify, address and communicate new regulatory developments and requirements and effect timely implementation by both 1LOD and Compliance of changes to policy and processes and make corresponding adjustments to compliance requirements and management controls.
  • Accountable for the management of the regulatory change agenda

 

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Relevant Professional qualification e.g. International Compliance Association or equivalent
  • Strong and relevant regulatory Compliance experience covering the Channel Islands
  • Strong leadership skills, including understanding accountability, initiative, drive, collaboration, change agent and impact and influence
  • Experience of leading control function teams across more than one jurisdiction
  • The ability to prioritize and manage large workloads and tight deadlines
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills

  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Proven track record of taking individual ownership and responsibilities as well as being a great team-player
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple cultures, geographies, and disciplines
