Setting and Reporting\r\n\r\nThis internship is in the Management Evaluation Unit (MEU) of the Office of Under-Secretary-General (OUSG), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The duration is for two months with a possible extension of maximum six months, depending on the needs of the department.\r\n\r\nThe internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.\r\n\r\nThe MEU was established as part of the new Administration of Justice as of 1 July 2009. The Unit evaluates complaints against administrative decisions by staff members, and makes recommendations to the Under-Secretary-General for DMSPC on whether to uphold, settle or reverse such decisions.\r\n\r\nResponsibilities\r\n\r\nResponsibilities of the internship position encompass the following aspects of MEU's work.\r\n\r\nThese responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:\r\n•Reviewing and summarizing past MEU recommendations for purposes of a new database digest.\r\n•Providing assistance in conducting legal research on issues relating to international public administrative law and other areas required for management evaluations.\r\n•Attending and taking notes at meetings as appropriate.\r\n\r\nCompetencies\r\n\r\nCommunication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively. Uses time efficiently.\r\n\r\nEducation\r\n\r\nTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:\r\n\r\n1) Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:\r\n\r\n(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,\r\n(b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).\r\n\r\n2) Be computer literate in standard software applications;\r\n\r\n3) Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and\r\n\r\n4) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nWork Experience\r\n\r\nNo working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
