About the role

We are offering a 4-month internship opportunity in Mechanical and Electrical engineering in Kitimat at our Rio Tinto Aluminium group facility

Our internships Engineering will allow you to be involved in research, design, development, testing and maintenance of aspects of manufacturing and installing electrical equipment, components, and systems.

In this role you will be responsible for: 

  • Creating and updating Maintenance Plan for Departmental assets.
  • Take small projects from concept to execution.
  • Implement cost saving strategies
  • Assist technical team improve asset reliability 

What you’ll bring 

  • At least one year completed in Mechanical, Electrical, Electrical/Control Systems Engineering or any other related field
  • Leadership skills, eagerness to learn and ready for the challenge ahead
  • Analytical mindset
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Valid driving license 

*To be eligible, you must return to school the semester following the internship period and have the right to work full-time in Canada.

Rio Tinto’s BC Works is a part of the Atlantic Operations of the Aluminum product group and has been operating in British Columbia for over 65 years. With industry leading new technology and four generations of employee expertise, as well as our hydropower facility at Kemano and the Nechako Reservoir, the Kitimat smelter is one of the world’s most competitive aluminum smelters, producing aluminum with one of the lowest carbon footprints in the industry.
