Your Role

We are looking for a Manager of Human Resources (HR) & Legal Business Applications to join our Information Technology (IT) management team, reporting to the Director of Enterprise Business Applications. The mission of our team is to ignite the power of digital platforms to modernize the core work of the foundation, accelerate achieving our goals and amplify the impact the foundation can have on the world. Leading a high performing team, this manager is accountable for applications that enable critical business processes supporting the HR, Payroll and Legal functions. This role involves close collaboration with business leaders and others within IT on the delivery of application improvements and support as well as participation in large cross-department initiatives. The ideal candidate will be able to use their technical experience and discernment to maintain a positive relationship with users and business partners while enabling technical teams to deliver great solutions aligned with the most important foundation priorities.


This position reports to the Director of Enterprise Business Applications.


What You’ll Do

  • Advise the day-to-day work of the delivery team including FTE and contingent staff
  • Talent and performance management including coaching and mentoring, develop a culture of inclusivity and collaboration to ensure continuous development of team members
  • Facilitate project intake and prioritization with key business partners, manage processes for monitoring performance, planning and backlog management
  • Co-develop and maintain the multi-year portfolio roadmaps for the application areas that you are responsible for
  • Ensure team follows a mature and auditable application lifecycle management process that meets or exceeds foundation standards
  • Plan for and ensure seamless delivery of reoccurring projects such as open enrollment, annual compensation review, and application updates
  • Proactively identify and handle issues or challenges that get in the way of successful service delivery to partners
  • Manage (in conjunction with senior members of the team) external partners and vendors who deliver services to ensure alignment to standards and a quality work product is delivered
  • Partner with the Director of Enterprise Business Applications and business leaders in the discovery, scoping, resource planning, budget development and timing of large projects
  • Develop annual team operating budget, update forecast monthly, and maintain contracts that support your areas of responsibility
  • Ensure all applications, systems and services are in compliance with Information Security policies, procedures and standard methodologies


Your Experience

  • Bachelors degree with 5+ years of experience, or equivalent working experience
  • 3+ years of experience configuring Workday HCM
  • Proven operational rigor and strong record of quality delivery within a dynamic enterprise environment
  • Experience managing individuals and leading teams
  • Solid project management experience – agile, waterfall, and hybrid
  • Knowledge of relevant systems, technologies, platforms, and/or applications with the curiosity to stay up to date with industry trends and standards
  • Ability to communicate to technical application support team as well as non-technical partners at multiple levels of the organization
  • Ability to understand the sophisticated technical concepts at play without needing expertise in any specific application, make sound decisions and provide proper direction to team resources
  • Understanding of business process and ability to translate business requirements into application functionality while at the same time limiting system customization
  • Power to influence and build consensus while navigating ambiguity
  • Drive a culture of operational excellence and productivity within your team
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, including the ability to arbitrate and objectively evaluate contending requests
  • Business focused approach
