Job Description:

The Partnership Coordinator will support the Kenya Country Program in strategically managing and overseeing its robust partnerships across the country. The Coordinator will facilitate the delivery of high-quality partnerships that are strategic for IRC, compliant with IRC and donor requirements, and provide quality services and outcomes for the communities served. Working closely with program, grants, and operations departments, the coordinator will oversee all steps in the partnership management lifecycle, ensuring that partnerships are appropriately integrated into the overall project cycle management.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Director for Grants and Accountability (DDGA), the Coordinator will also play a leadership role in building and promoting a culture conducive to collaborative partnerships among the team, based on the IRC’s role and approach and core partnership principles. This position is based in Nairobi and requires travel to field sites.

Major Responsibilities:

Partnership Strategy:

  • Lead the development and implementation of IRC Kenya’s partnership strategy.
  • Form and chair the Partnership Working Group to promote a coherent, strategic, and coordinated approach to local partnerships.
  • Oversee partnership management operating procedures for IRC Kenya.
  • Promote initiatives to enhance local partnerships, including capacity development and process improvement.
  • Ensure partnership-specific targets and ambitions with the IRC Kenya Strategy Action Plan are realized.

Partnerships/Sub-Grant Processes:

  • Supervise and support the partnership manager and relevant staff on the implementation of the PEER system.
  • Establish a partner monitoring schedule and ensure compliance.
  • Lead the periodic mapping of potential partners for emergency response.
  • Coordinate partner capacity and risk assessments.

Partner Monitoring:

  • Lead the partnerships team in monitoring sub-grantees and partners for donor compliance and progress.
  • Coordinate field monitoring visits with partners.
  • Review and share relevant feedback with sub-grantees.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Coordinate the maintenance of comprehensive electronic files for all subgrantees.
  • Compile and submit partner reports into an overall donor report.
  • Carry out a data analysis of the existing subgrant portfolio and potential future partner commitments.

Human Resources Management, Capacity Building, and Development:

  • Coach, train, supervise, and mentor direct-report staff.
  • Provide a measurable development plan for the partnership team.
  • Maintain open and professional relationships with team members.
  • Support recruitment and retention strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline; a master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in the NGO environment.
  • Experience in the coordination of multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong preference is given to candidates with previous experience in partnership management.
  • Familiarity with the IRC PEER system is preferred.
  • Familiarity with USG and ECHO rules and regulations.
  • Computer literate with budgeting experience.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional fluency in spoken and written English.

Ability to Travel:

  • Up to 30% travel to partner offices; occasional travel to HQ and other regions for workshops, conferences, or other meetings.
