The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of over 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

The CSIS Middle East Program and CSIS-Chumir Global Dialogue seeks a creative, hard-working, and energetic junior staffer to work on a range of programmatic and research activities in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment. The Program is aiming for a July 11, 2022, start date. The most promising candidates will be proactive self-starters with experience successfully balancing a wide range of responsibilities. They will be team players, possess excellent communication skills, and have a keen interest in and aptitude for study of both Middle East and global governance, as well as public policy more generally. The position reports directly to the Director of the Middle East Program and the co-Executive Director of the Global Dialogue, positions that are held simultaneously.
The strongest candidates will be detail oriented with a bias for action. They will also have robust research and writing skills, including resourcefulness and creativity in identifying sources. They also will have the ability to process large amounts of information to discern what is important.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Execute a diverse portfolio of programmatic tasks across two distinct teams within CSIS, including scheduling, website management, drafting mailings and social media content, invoicing and expense processing, and ad hoc requests.
• Conduct research to support major projects, publications, multimedia, and speaking engagements.
• Edit and fact-check program materials with a critical perspective and strong attention to detail.
• Contribute to the planning, execution, and follow-up for all program events and special projects.
• Adapt to evolving needs of respective programs.


Required qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs, Political Science, Modern History, or a related field, and a strong demonstrated interest in the Middle East.
• 1–2 years’ work experience. Internships may be counted towards this total.
• Demonstrably strong research, writing, and communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, along with an ability to work well independently and in groups.
• Be highly coachable and receptive to feedback.
Strongly preferred qualifications:
• Experience with event planning and management.
• Experience studying in or working in the Middle East.
• In-depth knowledge of at least one Middle Eastern country, combined with an ability to look broadly at the region.
• Demonstrated interest in or experience with global governance and international institutions.
