BirdLife International is the world’s largest nature conservation partnership. Through our unique local-to-global approach, we deliver high impact and long-term conservation for the benefit of nature and people.

The Partnership, Communities and Capacity Development (PCCD) department exists to strengthen and grow the Partnership for more effective and impactful conservation action. Towards this goal, we are looking for someone to contribute towards strengthening the conservation capacity of BirdLife Partners at the national and local levels to deliver for nature and people.

You will support mainstreaming of strategic priorities related to conservation enterprise, ecotourism and microfinance, and apply these in support of organisational resilience for BirdLife Partner organisations and sustainable livelihoods of local community groups .You will keep up-to-date with latest best practice approaches in supporting sustainable livelihoods, especially related to conservation enterprises and financial instruments, and inform the development of BirdLife’s approach in these areas. You will also convene meetings with Partners, Secretariat staff and external experts to support the development of conservation enterprises and support sharing of lessons experiences between Partners to build capacity.

The ideal candidate will have

  • A degree in Life Sciences and or development studies preferred with experience of work in biodiversity conservation projects in low income economic countries.
  • Some experience of working with national NGOs on capacity building will be essential.
  • Strong commitment to conservation and understanding of the need for conservation capacity-building at grassroots and institutional levels
  • Knowledge of financial instruments and business models as they apply to conservation and/or development
  • Knowledge of and interest in international wildlife conservation (not necessarily birds).
  • Strong commitment to conservation and understanding of the need for conservation capacity-building.
  • Facilitation skills in international, multi-cultural settings.
  • Field experience in practical project management within the conservation field.
  • Experience with grant management
  • Experience and/or understanding of environment-development linkages, especially in developing countries, highly desirable.
  • Good desk-based research in a biodiversity conservation organisation is relevant, including good analytical and report writing skills.
