Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

Urban areas in West and Central Africa face significant challenges in accessing safe water, adequate sanitation, and proper hygiene facilities (WASH). UNICEF aims to conduct a comprehensive landscape analysis to better understand the current status, gaps, and opportunities for urban WASH programming in the region. The primary objectives of this landscape analysis are to assess the status of urban WASH programming, compile and analyze UNICEF urban WASH initiatives, and develop strategic documents for UNICEF WASH programming.

Scope of Work:

The consultancy will cover the West and Central Africa Region of UNICEF and involve desk research, key informant interviews, and data collection from primary and secondary sources. The methodology will include a desk review of relevant literature, key informant interviews, and data analysis to synthesize findings. Deliverables include an inception report, draft landscape analysis report, and final landscape analysis report.

Key Deliverables:

  1. Inception Report: Detailed work plan, methodology, and timeline for the study.
  2. Draft Landscape Analysis Report: Preliminary findings, key insights, and recommendations.
  3. Final Landscape Analysis Report: Comprehensive analysis, including executive summary, findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Advanced (Master) University Degree in Public Health, Engineering, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Communications Sciences, International Relations, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in communication, advocacy, or WASH sector in developing countries.
  • Proven expertise in creative storytelling, video production, and multimedia content development.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Familiarity with the socio-economic, cultural, and political context of West and Central Africa.
  • Fluency in English and French, with proficiency in both languages preferred.

Note: Payment will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. The selected candidate must have current health insurance coverage and meet fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) requirements if applicable.
