The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is seeking a Communication Expert to join its team in Addis Ababa. The expert will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies to enhance the visibility and impact of ECA’s work across various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies and campaigns to promote ECA’s objectives and activities.
  2. Produce high-quality communication materials, including press releases, articles, speeches, and multimedia content.
  3. Manage ECA’s digital communication platforms, including the website and social media channels, to engage with target audiences effectively.
  4. Provide communication support for ECA events, conferences, and publications, ensuring consistent messaging and branding.
  5. Liaise with media outlets, journalists, and key stakeholders to promote ECA’s work and achievements.
  6. Monitor and analyze media coverage and public opinion related to ECA’s priority areas and recommend appropriate actions.
  7. Provide communication training and capacity building for ECA staff and partners to enhance communication skills and knowledge.
  8. Conduct research and surveys to assess the effectiveness of communication activities and identify areas for improvement.


  1. Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
  2. Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in communication, media relations, or public information, preferably in an international organization or government agency.
  3. Proven track record in developing and implementing communication strategies and campaigns.
  4. Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and engaging communication materials.
  5. Strong understanding of digital communication tools and platforms, including social media, websites, and content management systems.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and collaborate with diverse teams.
  7. Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
