Summary:

UNHCR is seeking a Driver to join its team in El Gedaref, Sudan. The incumbent will be responsible for driving UNHCR vehicles, ensuring the safety and maintenance of the vehicles, and facilitating transportation for official purposes. This role requires a valid driving license, knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and basic vehicle mechanical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Transportation: Drive UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers, deliver and collect documents and other items, and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required.

  2. Vehicle Maintenance: Perform day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc. Ensure vehicles are roadworthy and maintained up to security standards. Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs as needed.

  3. Record Keeping: Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, and greasing. Ensure valid documentation for passengers, items, or cargo in the vehicle.

  4. Safety and Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to instructions and security guidance provided by the supervisor. Take necessary steps in case of involvement in an accident.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of Primary Education or High School Diploma.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant job experience with UNHCR.
  • Valid driving license and knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
  • Skills in minor vehicle repair.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in driving on highways and off-roads, especially in rainy seasons.
  • Good knowledge of English and the local language of refugees is desirable.
  • Ability to work under pressure and stressful conditions.

Language Requirements:

  • Knowledge of English and/or UN working language of the duty station.
  • Knowledge of the local language of refugees is desirable.

Desired Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of primary education and at least 2 years of relevant job experience with UNHCR. They should possess a valid driving license, knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and skills in minor vehicle repair. Experience in driving on highways and off-roads, along with good communication skills and the ability to work under pressure, are desirable.

Living and Working Conditions:

El Gedaref is located in Sudan, with transportation time from Nairobi (CO), Kenya. The nature of the position involves driving UNHCR vehicles in various conditions, including off-road terrain and during adverse weather conditions. The incumbent will be required to adhere to safety and security guidelines provided by the supervisor.
