Overview of the Functions of the Post:

The Executive Assistant will provide substantive and administrative support services to the Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations (ADG/PAX) regarding the Félix Houphouët Boigny-UNESCO Peace Prize. This role involves organizing the ADG/PAX’s work concerning the prize, facilitating communication between the ADG/PAX and various partners, responding to requests, organizing administrative work related to the prize, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and manage the ADG/PAX’s work regarding the Félix Houphouët Boigny-UNESCO Peace Prize.
  • Provide substantive and administrative support and facilitate communication and information flow between the ADG/PAX and prize partners.
  • Respond to requests, serve as a liaison with senior officials, and effectively prioritize and resolve related demands.
  • Organize administrative work for the prize, including establishing procedures, tracking systems, organizing meetings, preparing documentation, and following up on actions.
  • Research, compile, and summarize background materials for reports, briefings, speeches, and draft responses to correspondence.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Completed secondary, technical, and/or vocational education.
  • Work Experience: At least ten (10) years of relevant professional experience in administrative or secretarial tasks in an international environment.
  • Skills & competencies: excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and coordination skills; ability to work within tight deadlines; capacity to deal efficiently and tactfully with stakeholders in a multicultural environment; excellent IT skills.
  • Languages: excellent knowledge of either English or French and very good knowledge of the other language.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Education: specialized training/certification in administration or office management.
  • Work experience: experience in similar functions within the UN system or an international organization.
  • Skills & Competencies: familiarity with international organizations and/or the UN system; excellent proofreading skills.
  • Languages: knowledge of another official language of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish).

  • UNESCO’s salaries include a basic salary and other benefits such as annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, and a pension plan.
  • The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 53,842 euros.
