Job Description: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is offering an internship opportunity for a highly motivated individual to support public information activities in New York. The intern will gain valuable experience in communication, media relations, and public outreach within the United Nations system.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Content Creation: Assist in drafting and editing press releases, articles, and other communication materials.
  2. Social Media Management: Support the management of social media accounts and develop engaging content for various platforms.
  3. Media Monitoring: Monitor media coverage and compile relevant news articles and reports.
  4. Event Support: Assist in the organization and promotion of public events, workshops, and campaigns.
  5. Research: Conduct research on environmental issues and prepare background materials for public information campaigns.
  6. Administrative Tasks: Provide general administrative support to the Public Information team as needed.


  • Education: Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program (or recently graduated) in communications, journalism, international relations, or a related field.
  • Experience: Previous experience in communications, media, or public relations is an asset.
  • Skills: Excellent writing and editing skills, proficiency in social media platforms, strong research abilities, attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Duration: The internship is for a period of three to six months, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and funding availability.
