Summary of Key Functions/Accountabilities:

The Programme Specialist (MHPSS) will play a crucial role in ensuring that multi-sectoral mental health programmes and policies in the MENA region are developed and implemented effectively. Key responsibilities include providing technical advice, developing partnerships, leading evidence generation and knowledge dissemination efforts, and providing technical leadership in humanitarian action.

  1. Provide technical advice to country offices, governments, and key stakeholders on implementation of multi-sectoral mental health policies, programmes, and interventions.
  2. Develop partnerships and collaborations on mental health, including strengthening collaboration with WHO and other institutions, leading resource mobilization efforts, and implementing common training packages.
  3. Develop an evidence, M&E, and knowledge generation agenda, including research, evaluation, and data analysis, and dissemination of evidence and knowledge on MHPSS.
  4. Provide technical leadership and practical guidance on mental health interventions in humanitarian action, including coordination of multi-sectoral MHPSS humanitarian response and guidance on trauma-informed approaches.


  • Advanced university degree in psychology, psychiatry, social work, public health, or a related field.


  • At least 8 years of relevant national and international experience in mental health policy, programming, and service delivery.
  • Experience designing and implementing MHPSS programmes in humanitarian settings is desirable.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic and/or French is an asset.
