Introduction The UNOG Safety and Security Service is seeking a Security Coordination Officer to strengthen its internal security and safety mechanisms. This position plays a critical role in coordinating security activities, analyzing threats, and implementing measures to safeguard UN personnel and assets in Geneva.


  1. Security Coordination: Coordinate security operations and activities within the UNOG premises, ensuring effective deployment of resources and personnel.
  2. Threat Analysis: Monitor and assess security threats and risks, conducting regular security assessments and providing recommendations for risk mitigation.
  3. Crisis Management: Develop and implement crisis management plans and protocols, including emergency response procedures and evacuation plans.
  4. Security Training: Organize security training programs and workshops for UN staff, focusing on personal safety, security awareness, and crisis response.
  5. Information Management: Maintain accurate records of security incidents, compile security-related data and reports, and disseminate timely updates to relevant stakeholders.
  6. Security Liaison: Liaise with local authorities, law enforcement agencies, and other security partners to enhance cooperation and information sharing on security matters.
  7. Security Policies: Review and update security policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with evolving security threats and best practices.


  • Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in security studies, international relations, or a related field. A first-level university degree with additional relevant experience may be accepted.
  • Experience: At least five years of progressively responsible experience in security management, preferably in an international organization or diplomatic setting.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and proficiency in security risk assessment and crisis management.
  • Languages: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other official UN languages is an asset.
