Job Description:

The United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) is seeking a skilled Vehicle Technician (G4) to be stationed in Aweil. The Vehicle Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of the mission’s fleet of vehicles to ensure their safe and efficient operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on UN vehicles, including inspections, oil changes, and brake adjustments.
  2. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems in vehicles.
  3. Conduct preventive maintenance activities to prevent breakdowns and ensure the longevity of vehicles.
  4. Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance and repair activities, including parts inventory and service schedules.
  5. Assist in the procurement of spare parts and materials needed for vehicle maintenance and repair.
  6. Provide technical assistance and guidance to drivers and other staff on vehicle operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.
  7. Ensure compliance with UN vehicle safety standards and regulations.


  1. Completion of secondary education or equivalent technical training in automotive mechanics.
  2. At least four years of relevant experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, preferably in a field-based environment.
  3. Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in a variety of vehicles.
  4. Knowledge of automotive diagnostic tools and equipment.
  5. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and under pressure.
  6. Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multicultural team.
  7. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of local languages spoken in South Sudan is an asset.
