Lesedi Nuclear Engineering Bursary 2023

For up to 20 qualified formerly underprivileged engineers who intend to pursue a career in nuclear science and technology in the 2023 academic year, Lesedi Nuclear Services is awarding bursaries.

Lesedi will provide bursaries for the following postgraduate qualifications only:

  • PgD in nuclear science and technology
  • PgD in nuclear science and technology with nuclear technology management

Cape Town-based Lesedi Nuclear Services and EWSETA have teamed up to develop a pipeline of young graduates with nuclear qualifications. Postgraduate students who want to work in nuclear science and technology are the target audience for the scholarship.

To prepare students for the Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Engineering Sciences with Nuclear Engineering, which focuses on the optimization of nuclear reactor design, this PGDip in Nuclear Science and Technology is theory-focused.

To prepare students for the Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Engineering Sciences with Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Technology Management degree, which focuses on the optimization of Nuclear Technology Management, this PGDip in Nuclear Science and Technology with Nuclear Technology Management is theory-focused.

The bursary will go to 20 qualifying applicants, and the bursaries will cover the following:

  • Tuition fees
  • Registration fees
  • Stipend
  • University Residence

The North-West University in Potchefstroom will begin a theoretical learning program for scholarship beneficiaries.

After graduation, the practical and work-based learning will take place at Lesedi’s offices, located at the following locations: Koeberg Nuclear Power Station, Centurion Office in Gauteng, Lesedi House (Century City) in Cape Town, and Other local/global sites.

Eligibility Criteria Of The Lesedi Nuclear Engineering Bursary 

To apply for the bursary, candidates must meet the following entry-level requirements, failing which their applications will get rejected:

PgD students in Nuclear Science and Technology:

  • An engineering degree such as the Bing, BEng, or BSc (Eng), or equivalent level of qualification at NQF level 8
  • A three-year BSc degree includes physics in the third year and mathematics as one of the subjects.
  • Second-year Computer Science students at NQF 7 level
  • BTech in engineering at NQF 7 level with a grade of 60% in the final year or a BEngTech with NQF level 8 with an average minimum of 60%

PgD students in Nuclear Science and Technology with Nuclear Technology Management:

  • BTechEng degree at NQF level 7
  • BEngTech Eng. degree at NQF level 8
  • BEng or BIng, BSC (Eng) or equivalent at NQF level 8
  • Three-year BSc degree with Physics; at least second-year level; one of Mathematics, Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics, at least second-year level at NQF level 7
