Responsibilities:

  1. Analysis and Reporting: Conduct in-depth analysis of political developments and trends in Syria. Prepare comprehensive reports and briefings on political dynamics, conflicts, and peace processes. Provide timely and accurate assessments to senior officials and decision-makers.

  2. Policy Development: Assist in the development of policy recommendations and strategies to address political challenges and promote conflict resolution in Syria. Support diplomatic efforts and negotiations aimed at facilitating dialogue and reconciliation among key stakeholders.

  3. Engagement and Coordination: Engage with government officials, civil society representatives, and international actors to facilitate dialogue and cooperation on political issues. Coordinate closely with UN agencies, regional organizations, and other stakeholders to advance peacebuilding and conflict resolution initiatives.

  4. Conflict Mediation: Provide support to mediation efforts and peace talks aimed at resolving conflicts and promoting stability in Syria. Facilitate dialogue among conflicting parties and promote confidence-building measures to reduce tensions and promote reconciliation.

  5. Capacity Building: Provide training and capacity-building support to national institutions and civil society organizations involved in peacebuilding and conflict resolution efforts. Foster local ownership and participation in peace processes and political dialogue.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, law, or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

  • Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, diplomacy, or related fields. Experience in conflict analysis, mediation, and peacebuilding is highly desirable.

  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to assess complex political situations and provide strategic advice and recommendations. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with demonstrated ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of political dynamics and socio-economic issues in Syria and the broader Middle East region. Familiarity with the UN system, multilateral diplomacy, and peacekeeping operations is an asset.

  • Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of Arabic or another official UN language is desirable.
