Your Impact:

As Chief Security Officer, you’ll be responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership in all aspects of security management within UNSOS. You’ll oversee the development and implementation of security policies, procedures, and protocols, ensuring compliance with UN security standards and best practices. Your leadership will be essential in building a strong and resilient security culture within the organization, fostering collaboration and coordination among all stakeholders to enhance security awareness and preparedness.

What You’ll Do:

  • Risk Management: Assess security risks and threats facing UN personnel and operations in Somalia, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.

  • Security Operations: Coordinate security operations and activities, including the deployment of security personnel, the management of security incidents, and the maintenance of security equipment and facilities.

  • Crisis Response: Lead the response to security incidents and emergencies, providing guidance and support to UN staff and implementing partners to ensure their safety and security.

  • Capacity Building: Provide training and capacity-building support to UN personnel and partners on security-related matters, enhancing their ability to identify and respond to security risks effectively.

Requirements:

  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in security management, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role, preferably in a complex or high-risk environment.

  • Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in security management, international relations, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

  • Skills: Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams in challenging and high-pressure situations. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to make sound decisions under stress.

  • Languages: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
