How You Can Make a Difference:
As the Chief of Social Policy, you will play a crucial role in leading, managing, and supervising social policy programming and advocacy efforts. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Managerial Leadership:
- Establishing annual work plans and priorities for the social policy team.
- Providing clear guidance and support to ensure team members achieve their objectives efficiently.
- Supervising team members to ensure effective performance and delivery of results.
2. Improving Data on Child Poverty & Vulnerability:
- Overseeing the collection, analysis, and presentation of data on child poverty.
- Providing data-driven analysis to inform prioritization and planning of social policy initiatives.
- Analyzing macroeconomic contexts and proposing appropriate responses to address social policy concerns.
3. Strengthening Social Protection Coverage and Impact:
- Developing social protection policies and programs to increase coverage and impact on children.
- Promoting integrated social protection systems and improving monitoring of social protection impact on child outcomes.
4. Improving Use of Public Financial Resources for Children:
- Conducting budget analysis to advocate for equitable allocations for essential services for children.
- Identifying policy options for improved domestic financing of child-sensitive social protection interventions.
- Strengthening capacity of partners for monitoring and tracking public expenditure on essential services.
5. Strengthening Capacity of Local Governments:
- Collaborating with central and local authorities to ensure child-focused decision-making and service delivery.
- Building capacity of local governments for quality data collection and analysis, planning, and implementation of essential social services.
6. Supporting Evidence Generation and Strengthened Advocacy:
- Using data and evidence to support social policy and advocacy efforts.
- Establishing partnerships with government, donors, NGOs, civil society, and other UN agencies to promote children’s rights and achieve global agendas.
7. UNICEF Programme Management:
- Managing and coordinating technical support around child poverty, social protection, and governance.
- Ensuring effective planning, monitoring, and evaluation of the country programme.
Qualifications:
- Advanced university degree in Economics, Public Policy, Social Sciences, International Relations, or related field.
- Minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience in a developing country and familiarity with emergency response are assets.
- Fluency in French and English is required.
