Description:

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is seeking a Consultant for a study focusing on analyzing the social and legal dynamics of the judicial response to sexual violence, specifically rape, in Guinea. As a Consultant, you will be responsible for conducting in-depth research and analysis to understand the factors influencing the judicial response to sexual violence and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the social and legal dynamics surrounding the judicial response to sexual violence, with a specific focus on rape cases, in Guinea.
  • Review existing legislation, policies, and practices related to sexual violence and the criminal justice system in Guinea.
  • Identify barriers and challenges faced by survivors of sexual violence in accessing justice and receiving adequate support and protection.
  • Assess the effectiveness of existing judicial mechanisms and procedures in addressing sexual violence cases, including investigation, prosecution, and adjudication.
  • Engage with key stakeholders, including government officials, legal experts, civil society organizations, and survivors of sexual violence, to gather input and insights.
  • Develop recommendations for improving the judicial response to sexual violence in Guinea, including legal reforms, policy changes, and capacity-building initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in law, human rights, social sciences, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in researching and analyzing issues related to human rights, gender-based violence, or the criminal justice system.
  • In-depth knowledge of international human rights standards and frameworks relevant to sexual violence and women’s rights.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret complex data and information.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French.
  • Experience working in Guinea or other countries in the region is highly desirable.
