Salary Level: USD $55,600 to $66,025 (commensurate on experience)

About the Data Protection & Privacy Team
The Data Protection and Privacy team (DPP) at Mercy Corps is dedicated to advancing humanitarian data protection and privacy. Our mission is to embed responsible data practices across the organization, ensuring the safeguarding and protection of data entrusted to us. We provide policies, tools, and training to Mercy Corps staff to manage data risks and build trust with stakeholders.

The Position
The Data Protection Support role contributes to the operational success of Mercy Corps’ Global Data Protection and Privacy team. This analytical role involves managing incoming requests for data protection and privacy support, conducting privacy impact assessments, and supporting process improvements. The position also involves crafting communications, leading meetings and trainings, creating program materials, and analyzing organizational data protection needs.

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3+ years of relevant experience in data protection, compliance, or data management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Suites.
  • Fluency in English; fluency in Spanish preferred, followed by Arabic or other languages spoken in Mercy Corps operational areas.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality support with attention to detail and prioritization.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, especially in remote team settings.
  • Familiarity with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and ticketing/data protection platforms preferred.
  • IAPP certification or similar is a plus.
  • Experience in international development or a global organization is preferred.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

This position is 100% remote within the United States and may require work outside traditional hours to accommodate global stakeholders. Occasional travel (approximately 5% annually) may be required.

Team members are encouraged to dedicate 5% of their time to personal and/or professional growth activities. This role provides opportunities for accreditation and experience in data protection and privacy.
