Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Security and Safety Section, Bangkok, within the Department of Safety and Security. Reporting to the Chief of Security and Safety Section, the incumbent is responsible for providing leadership, operational support, and oversight of the security management system to ensure maximum security for staff and eligible dependents, as well as the efficient conduct of UN programmes and activities.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Chief of Security and Safety Section, the incumbent will:

  • Prepare security plans for the ESCAP premises, including development, implementation, and updating.
  • Maintain communication with relevant bodies and organizations to ensure maximum security coordination.
  • Assess local security conditions, identify trends, and advise staff regarding safety and security.
  • Ensure availability of fire detection devices, conduct fire drills, and maintain office security.
  • Manage emergency communication systems and investigate security-related incidents.
  • Assume responsibility in the Chief’s absence, issuing directives to security forces and administrative staff.
  • Oversee section administration, including recruitment, performance management, budget forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Maintain protection detail for senior officials as necessary.

Education

  • Advanced university degree in security management, criminal justice, business administration, political/social science, international relations, or related field.

Work Experience

  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in security management, preferably within the UN Common System or similar international organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in compound and physical security, crisis management, and emergency communications.
  • Field experience in security management within the Asia-Pacific region is desirable.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
