The Position:

The Deputy Representative plays a leading role in designing and delivering UNFPA’s population and development and sexual and reproductive health country programme in Senegal. This involves building alliances and partnerships with various stakeholders to realize the 2030 Agenda and make a positive impact on people’s lives. The Deputy Representative is also responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Senegal Country Office, including supervising assigned staff.

Job Purpose:

Under the guidance of the Representative, the Deputy Representative strengthens Senegal’s capacity to implement the ICPD Programme of Action, supports national development efforts to achieve the SDGs, and ensures national ownership. This role involves developing and managing an innovative Country Programme of Cooperation focused on population and development, universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, maternal health, family planning, gender, and adolescent and youth empowerment. The Deputy Representative promotes the programme’s goals at the national level and integrates sexual and reproductive health and rights issues into the broader national development agenda.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:
Postgraduate university degree in Public Health, Medicine, Sociology, Demography, Gender, International Relations, International Development, Economics, Public Administration, Management, or related field.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 7 years of professional experience in public administration and international development, including programme designing, appraising, and management.
  • At least 5 years of experience in population and development, sexual and reproductive health, or humanitarian work at the international level.
  • Demonstrated ability to align organizational programme objectives with national priorities/capacities.
  • Experience in advocacy and policy dialogue at national and international levels.
  • Excellent media/communication skills and proven ability to lead teams effectively.
  • Field experience in developing or humanitarian contexts is essential, with experience in UNFPA’s mandate considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French is required.
