Description:

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Finance & Budget Advisor to provide expertise and support in financial management and budgeting processes. The Advisor will play a key role in ensuring effective financial planning and resource utilization within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide strategic guidance and technical assistance on financial management and budgeting matters.
  2. Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and systems to enhance efficiency and transparency.
  3. Prepare and review budgets, financial reports, and forecasts, ensuring compliance with UNEP and UN regulations.
  4. Monitor expenditure trends and variances, identifying areas for cost optimization and risk mitigation.
  5. Support capacity building initiatives for staff in financial management and budgeting principles.
  6. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including donors and partners, on financial matters.

Qualifications:

  1. Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  2. Minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in finance, budgeting, or accounting, preferably within the United Nations system or international organizations.
  3. Strong knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and tools.
  4. Experience in budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting.
  5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  6. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and with diverse stakeholders.
  7. Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
