Description:
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Finance & Budget Advisor to provide expertise and support in financial management and budgeting processes. The Advisor will play a key role in ensuring effective financial planning and resource utilization within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic guidance and technical assistance on financial management and budgeting matters.
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and systems to enhance efficiency and transparency.
- Prepare and review budgets, financial reports, and forecasts, ensuring compliance with UNEP and UN regulations.
- Monitor expenditure trends and variances, identifying areas for cost optimization and risk mitigation.
- Support capacity building initiatives for staff in financial management and budgeting principles.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including donors and partners, on financial matters.
Qualifications:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in finance, budgeting, or accounting, preferably within the United Nations system or international organizations.
- Strong knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and tools.
- Experience in budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and with diverse stakeholders.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
