Organizational Setting:

The FAO Representation in Indonesia is working on a project titled “Sustainable Livestock Production to Support Resilient Food Systems, Environment and Rural Livelihoods in Indonesia,” supported by the Global Environment Facility under the GEF-8 Food Systems Integrated Program (FSIP). FAO is seeking a Food Systems, Livelihoods, and NRM Specialist to support this project.

Reporting Lines: Under the overall administrative supervision of the FAO Representative in Indonesia and direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme), the specialist will support the National PPG Coordinator and International Project Design Expert in providing relevant information on social situations, stakeholders mapping, and environmental and social safeguards assessment of the proposed project.

Technical Focus:

The specialist will focus on agriculture, animal husbandry, natural resources management, social sciences, or any related field.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct an analytical characterization of how the livestock sector interacts with other elements of livelihood, farming, food, and landscape management systems in the target geographies.
  • Assess the contribution of the livestock sector to social, economic, nutrition, and resilience benefits to livelihood systems, considering differences among socioeconomic groups and genders.
  • Recommend management options for farming, food, and landscape systems that optimize global environmental benefits and food system sustainability.
  • Define and generate baseline and target values for SMART indicators for use in the project results framework and M&E system related to NRM systems.

Minimum Requirements:

  • University degree in animal husbandry, agriculture, natural resources management, social sciences, or any related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in food systems analysis, NRM management, especially in Indonesia.
  • Working knowledge of English and the national language.
  • National of Indonesia or resident with a valid work permit.
