About the Organization:

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is the United Nations entity responsible for coordinating humanitarian action to save lives, alleviate suffering, and protect vulnerable people in crises and emergencies worldwide.

Position Summary: OCHA is seeking an experienced Information Management Officer to support its operations in Mogadishu. The Information Management Officer will be responsible for managing information and data systems, providing technical support for information management initiatives, and facilitating the dissemination of critical information to support humanitarian response efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain information management systems and tools to facilitate data collection, analysis, and dissemination, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and relevance of information.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to humanitarian partners on the use of information management tools and systems, including training and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to collect, compile, and analyze data on humanitarian needs, response activities, and outcomes to support decision-making and planning processes.
  • Collaborate with humanitarian clusters and working groups to ensure timely and accurate reporting of humanitarian information, including situation updates, assessments, and response plans.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of information management policies, standards, and procedures in line with OCHA and UN guidelines and best practices.
  • Support the coordination of information management activities with other UN agencies, NGOs, government entities, and other partners to enhance data sharing and collaboration.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of information management systems and tools, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions as needed.
  • Prepare and disseminate reports, maps, and other information products to support humanitarian coordination, advocacy, and decision-making at various levels.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in information management, computer science, geographic information systems (GIS), or related field is required.
  • A minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in information management, data analysis, or related field, preferably in humanitarian or emergency response settings.
  • Strong technical skills in information management tools and software, including databases, data visualization, and mapping applications.
  • Proven experience in managing and analyzing large datasets, conducting data quality assessments, and developing data collection methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including technical experts, humanitarian practitioners, and government officials.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and demanding environment, with a strong commitment to teamwork, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
