IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is a leading global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. The Development Impact Measurement Department (CDI) within the Economics & Private Sector Development Vice Presidency (CED) is responsible for assessing the development impact of IFC investments and implementing impact management frameworks.

The CDI is seeking a Principal Economist to contribute significantly to the ongoing development and implementation of impact management systems, including the Anticipated Impact Measurement and Monitoring system (AIMM). Based at IFC’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., the selected candidate will lead data analytics for real-time decisions, strengthen internal capacity for evidence-based program decisions, and collaborate with colleagues across departments.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead coordination of the AIMM process:

  • Develop and implement enhancements to the AIMM framework.
  • Oversee implementation of the ex-post AIMM process.
  • Support CDI management in reporting AIMM results to stakeholders.
  • Establish feedback mechanisms to improve AIMM relevance and reporting.
  • Manage continuous improvements to the AIMM IT platform.
  • Coordinate training for operational staff and management on AIMM.
  • Coordinate CDI’s engagement on investment self-evaluation reforms.

Coordinate and lead reporting on Development Results:

  • Work with CDI staff on data reporting for the Corporate Scorecard.
  • Support reporting on development impact for key strategy reports.
  • Manage external assurance process for development impact data.
  • Lead quality assurance process for Scorecard data reporting.
  • Coordinate reporting on job creation across the Department.

Thought Leadership on Results Measurement Issues:

  • Lead analysis comparing ex-ante and ex-post AIMM scores.
  • Contribute to methodological improvements on AIMM.
  • Provide analytical inputs for IFC’s portfolio approach implementation.

Lead reporting on additionality:

  • Implement new tracking approach on additionality through AIMM.
  • Provide inputs into key strategic documents on additionality.

Lead RM Support for specific client groups:

  • Work with team members supporting investor and client-facing teams.
  • Support and present IFC’s impact framework at investor meetings.

Selection Criteria

  • Master’s in Economics, Public Policy, Business Administration, with 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Deep experience in results measurement systems development and management.
  • Proven track record in developing impact frameworks and leading M&E support.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including econometric approaches.
  • Commitment to the WBG and IFC’s mission and values.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior staff.
  • Proficiency in STATA (other packages such as R, Python, are a plus) and Microsoft Office.
