This position, located in the Bureau of Medical Services in Washington, DC, plays a pivotal role in promoting the health and welfare of the Department of State’s global workforce. The focus extends to maintaining long-term health for eligible family members, including personnel from over 50 other federal agencies. The incumbent provides a comprehensive range of professional nursing services to Foreign Service employees, locally employed Department of State staff, and Eligible Family Members (EFMs).

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Medical Clearance Evaluation: Analyze medical clearance documentation to identify specific health needs and medical conditions. Follow up with treatment, monitoring, and appropriate documentation.

  2. Counseling and Record Maintenance: Provide counseling to patients on the clearance process, special circumstances, and up-to-date clearance information. Review and maintain clearance records, ensuring confidentiality in compliance with applicable regulations.

  3. Planning and Coordination: Plan medical clearance activities for Department employees, family members, contractors, and individuals from other federal agencies. Identify health needs requiring specialty management.

Requirements:

  • Citizenship and Security: U.S. Citizenship is required, and the incumbent will be subject to random drug testing. The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance is mandatory.

  • Education and Licensure: A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited program is required. Licensure includes passing the National Council Licensure Examination and possessing a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse.

Qualifications:

Applicants must meet basic entry qualification requirements, including education and licensure. Additionally, they should have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS-11 level.

Desirable Experience Includes:

  • Applying nursing administration and case management theories.
  • Utilizing automated systems for recording and retrieving medical data.
  • Providing technical nursing and advisory service, including resolving complex clearance issues.
  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, on sensitive health issues.

Education Requirements:
