Position Overview: As a Protection and GESI Capacity Building Adviser, you will play a crucial role in developing the capacity of Mercy Corps’ Protection and GESI team in Ukraine. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape our response strategy, foster organizational learning, and drive transformative programming in gender and protection. We are seeking a dynamic individual who can provide technical expertise, mentorship, and leadership to enhance our impact and promote inclusive practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and enhance Mercy Corps Ukraine’s GESI and Protection approaches in alignment with our Response Strategy and Global Localization agenda.
  • Develop a comprehensive capacity building package for the Protection and GESI team, focusing on both content and professional skills.
  • Model and mentor team members on technical leadership, critical analysis, advocacy, and organizational behavior change.
  • Provide input and lead program design focused on GESI and protection, ensuring technical coherence and creative programming.
  • Establish systems to ensure adherence to minimum standards in GESI and protection across program implementation.
  • Facilitate capacity development sessions for team members, promoting confidence, autonomy, and performance improvement.
  • Support internal and external representation on GESI and protection, fostering collaboration and advocacy efforts.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to promote GESI and protection within the wider humanitarian community in Ukraine.

Qualifications:

  • University Degree/Master in GESI/international studies, social sciences, or relevant field with specialization in gender/GESI and/or protection.
  • Proven technical expertise in gender and protection, with 5-7 years of senior experience in relevant roles.
  • Strong knowledge of development training in gender and protection, with experience in capacity development and transformation.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and prioritization skills, with proficiency in English and Ukrainian.
  • Ability to lead diverse teams, engage stakeholders, and drive positive change in complex environments.

Success Factors: The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership, communication, and training skills, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving. They will uphold programmatic standards while enhancing Mercy Corps’ ability to meet ambitious goals in gender and protection. Flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to travel within Ukraine are essential.

Living Conditions: This position is based in Kyiv, with up to 40% travel to support country programs, including insecure locations where amenities may be limited. Housing will be provided in a shared Guest House. Applicants should be aware of the current war context in Ukraine and have valid HEAT certification.
