Objectives of the Programme: The WHO Country Office in Rwanda actively supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of interventions aimed at reducing the burden of diseases, addressing health determinants, and promoting health across sectors. The Health Promotion and Social Determinants of Health program is a core function aimed at implementing regional strategies to prevent and control communicable and noncommunicable diseases, strengthen health systems, and respond to public health emergencies.

Description of Duties:

  • Strengthen institutional capacity to develop health promotion policies and strategies.
  • Maintain partnerships to combat communicable and noncommunicable diseases and promote healthier lifestyles.
  • Increase the capacity of national institutions to address broad health determinants and empower communities.
  • Analyze public health topics to support the development and implementation of national plans for disease prevention and control.
  • Monitor work plans and budgets, ensuring resources are mobilized and activities are implemented.
  • Support the promotion of health in all policies, including the development of healthy cities and other settings.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Risk Communication and Community Engagement in emergencies and public health events.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (health, public health, social sciences, communication), with training in epidemiology or social epidemiology.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of relevant work experience in public health program management, health promotion, or communication.
  • Skills: Proficiency in health promotion policies and strategies, prevention of communicable diseases, risk communication, and community engagement. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Language: Expert knowledge of English; intermediate knowledge of French desirable.

Remuneration: An annual base salary starting at RWF 34,447,000, subject to mandatory deductions, and 30 days of annual leave.
