Summary of Position:

The qualified nurses will be responsible for providing direct patient care, administering medications, coordinating healthcare services, and educating patients and their families. They will work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive and compassionate nursing care to individuals across the lifespan, especially children with acute malnutrition with complications.

Purpose:

The purpose of the qualified nurse role is to promote and maintain the health and well-being of patients. They will assess patient needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, administer treatments and medications, advocate for patient rights, and provide emotional support. Qualified nurses play a vital role in enhancing patient outcomes and ensuring the highest standards of care.

Engagement:

Qualified nurses will engage in various activities to provide comprehensive nursing care. They will assess patient conditions, collaborate with the healthcare team, administer medications and treatments, monitor patient progress, educate patients and families, maintain accurate records, and advocate for patient needs and rights.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Patient Assessment and Planning: Conduct thorough patient assessments, gather medical histories, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop individualized nursing care plans.

  2. Direct Patient Care: Provide hands-on care to patients, including administering medications, performing treatments, monitoring vital signs, dressing wounds, and assisting with activities of daily living.

  3. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective patient care. Communicate patient needs, progress, and concerns to the healthcare team.

  4. Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on health conditions, medications, self-care techniques, and preventive measures. Provide guidance on lifestyle modifications and disease management.

  5. Medication Administration: Administer medications, including intravenous medications, following established protocols, ensuring accuracy, and monitoring for adverse reactions.

  6. Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including assessments, care plans, interventions, and medications administered, and patient responses.

  7. Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients’ rights, safety, and well-being. Ensure informed consent, respect for patient autonomy, and adherence to ethical and legal standards.

  8. Emotional Support: Provide emotional support and empathy to patients and their families, addressing their concerns, and promoting a positive and caring environment.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications and Professional Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an equivalent nursing degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Required Skills, Competencies & Attributes:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in clinical skills, including patient assessment, medication administration, and wound care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient interaction and collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to make sound clinical judgments and decisions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and record keeping.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize and manage multiple patient needs effectively.
  • Emotional resilience and ability to handle stressful situations with empathy and composure.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with evidence-based nursing practices.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
