Job Description:
The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is seeking a Trade Expert Consultant to support the Regional Integration and Trade Division (RITD) and the African Trade Policy Centre (ATPC). The consultant will provide expertise in trade policy analysis and capacity-building initiatives to promote regional integration and economic development in Africa.
Key Responsibilities:
- Trade Policy Analysis: Conduct analysis of regional and international trade policies, agreements, and trends, with a focus on their implications for African countries.
- Policy Recommendations: Provide recommendations to policymakers on trade policy reforms and strategies to enhance regional integration and competitiveness.
- Capacity Building: Develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and technical assistance activities to build the capacity of policymakers and stakeholders in trade-related issues.
- Research: Conduct research on trade-related topics, including trade facilitation, trade in services, and trade and gender, and contribute to the publication of research papers and reports.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with government officials, regional organizations, and other stakeholders to promote dialogue and cooperation on trade matters.
- Project Management: Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of projects and initiatives aimed at promoting trade and economic development in Africa.
- Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to knowledge-sharing activities within ECA and with external partners, including the organization of conferences, seminars, and expert meetings.
Qualifications:
- Education: Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in economics, international trade, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of seven years of professional experience in trade policy analysis, capacity building, or related areas, with a focus on Africa.
- Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, familiarity with trade-related software and databases.
- Languages: Proficiency in English required. Knowledge of French or another official UN language is an asset.
Duration: The consultancy is for a fixed-term period, with a duration to be determined based on project needs and funding availability.
