Description:

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is seeking an experienced country officer or senior country officer to lead business development in the Dominican Republic. The selected candidate will collaborate with industry and World Bank Group colleagues to design, negotiate, structure, and supervise projects across various industries. Reporting to the IFC Country Manager for the Caribbean, this position will be based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Roles and responsibilities:

Strategy:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Dominican Republic’s economic and political landscape.
  • Refine IFC’s strategy in the Dominican Republic and oversee its execution.
  • Lead the preparation of strategic documents such as the IFC Country Strategy and Business Plan.

Business Development:

  • Collaborate with investment, advisory, upstream, and relevant World Bank Group teams to implement IFC’s strategy and cultivate a robust project pipeline.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with private sector entities, government officials, development partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in project structuring and implementation using local market insights.
  • Monitor the project pipeline and facilitate transactions.
  • Support fundraising efforts for advisory projects.
  • Supervise the organization of visiting missions to the country.
  • Contribute to the preparation of board papers and other relevant documents.

Portfolio Management:

  • Gain a thorough understanding of the portfolio, address issues, and maintain client relationships.

Briefs:

  • Prepare or coordinate high-quality briefs for senior management.
  • Utilize key information and data to produce top-notch presentations.

Representation:

  • Represent IFC externally through participation in high-profile events and engagements.
  • Manage internal and external requests.
  • Act for the country manager when necessary.

People Management:

  • Supervise IFC staff in the Santo Domingo office, providing leadership, guidance, and mentorship.

Office Management:

  • Contribute to the effective operation of the Santo Domingo Office.

Selection Criteria:

  • Post-graduate degree in finance, business administration, management, economics, or related fields.
  • 8 to 12 years of relevant experience in development, investment, banking, public-private partnerships, or management consulting.
  • Experience or strong interest in working in the Dominican Republic.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess business opportunities and risks.
  • Strong analytical, credit, transaction structuring, and negotiation skills.
  • Understanding of IFC’s investment and advisory business lines and products.
  • Track record in building and maintaining high-level relationships.
  • Team management experience and strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent English and Spanish language skills, both written and oral.
