Main Responsibilities:
As the Senior Development Coordination Officer, you will be responsible for leading crisis management efforts within the Resident Coordinator System. This temporary position requires a high level of expertise in sustainable development and coordination of response mechanisms during crises.
Key Duties:
- Provide strategic leadership in coordinating crisis response activities across multiple sectors, including humanitarian assistance, development aid, and peacebuilding efforts.
- Work closely with government agencies, humanitarian organizations, and other stakeholders to assess needs, develop response plans, and mobilize resources in crisis-affected areas.
- Coordinate the implementation of joint response initiatives, ensuring coherence and effectiveness in addressing humanitarian and development challenges.
- Support the Resident Coordinator and other senior officials in advocating for increased support and attention to crisis-affected populations from national and international actors.
- Facilitate information-sharing and coordination mechanisms among UN agencies, NGOs, and other partners to enhance synergy and avoid duplication of efforts.
- Provide technical guidance and capacity-building support to national counterparts in crisis-affected countries to strengthen their resilience and response capacities.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of crisis response interventions, identify lessons learned, and recommend adjustments to improve effectiveness.
- Represent the Resident Coordinator System in high-level meetings, conferences, and other forums related to crisis management and sustainable development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in international relations, development studies, social sciences, or related field.
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in crisis management, humanitarian affairs, development cooperation, or related fields.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams in complex crisis environments.
- Strong analytical and strategic planning abilities, with a proven track record of developing and implementing effective crisis response strategies.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders and navigate political sensitivities.
- Experience working in crisis-affected countries and knowledge of humanitarian principles, international humanitarian law, and human rights standards.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic or other UN languages is desirable.
