Description:
The Department of Safety and Security (DSS) is seeking a highly skilled Strategic Communications Officer to join our team in New York. As a Strategic Communications Officer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication initiatives to enhance the department’s visibility and promote its objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies to effectively convey the department’s mission, goals, and activities to internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead the creation and dissemination of compelling communication materials, including press releases, articles, speeches, and multimedia content.
- Manage the department’s digital presence, including website content, social media channels, and online campaigns.
- Coordinate media relations activities, including responding to media inquiries, arranging interviews, and organizing press briefings.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all communication channels.
- Monitor and analyze media coverage and public perception of the department, and provide regular reports and analysis to senior management.
- Provide communication support for high-profile events, conferences, and other departmental activities.
- Stay updated on emerging trends and best practices in strategic communication and recommend innovative approaches to enhance the department’s communication efforts.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of seven years of relevant experience in strategic communication, public relations, or media relations.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communication strategies in a complex organizational environment.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear, concise, and persuasive communication materials.
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience working with digital communication tools and platforms, including social media, website content management systems, and email marketing software.
- Knowledge of international security issues and experience working in a multicultural environment is desirable.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in other UN languages is an asset.
