Vendor Management Intern, Vendor Management – Dubai

Organizational Context

In response to the escalating global hunger crisis, WFP, the recipient of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize, is dedicated to mitigating food insecurity worldwide. To bolster the efficiency and impact of its initiatives, WFP is relocating key corporate functions within procurement and supply chain from its headquarters in Rome, Italy, to the UAE. Leveraging the UAE’s strategic location, stability, advanced infrastructure, markets, expertise, and innovation, WFP has established the Global Supply Chain Support Center in Dubai.

Job Title: Vendor Management Intern
Job Contract/Grade: Internship
Duration: 6 months
Job Location: UAE, Dubai
Reporting To: Vendor Management Focal Point
Expected Start Date: May/June 2024

Role and responsibilities:

  • Conduct market research to identify potential vendors/suppliers and compile their contact information and basic details.
  • Communicate with suppliers to request information and provide clarification on the vendor registration process.
  • Manage and organize supplier documentation, including following up with new suppliers on document collection and addressing any issues.
  • Generate reports on supplier performance regarding tenders and deliveries.
  • Prepare a concept note for one or two innovative Vendor Management Projects leveraging UAE expertise in technology, AI, and digitization to meet humanitarian needs.

Role Requirements:

  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from a university program in Business Administration, Commerce, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Candidates must have completed at least two years of their university program or attended classes within the past 12 months.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Strong report writing, data analysis, and communication skills.
  • Programming skills (Python or any object-oriented programming language) are advantageous.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in humanitarian efforts and a commitment to making a positive impact.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.

Training Components:

Throughout the assignment, interns have access to the industry-leading learning platform, WeLearn. Additionally, interns may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, subject to availability of funds.

Learning Elements:

By the end of the internship, the intern should have:

  • An overview of how WFP operates and handles vendor management processes.
  • Industry-specific knowledge of vendor management in the humanitarian industry.
  • Skills in task prioritization, professional communication, and team collaboration.
  • Adaptability to changing work environments and priorities.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Monthly stipend up to a maximum of US$1000 per month, depending on the duty station.
  • WFP does not cover living expenses or arrange accommodation.
  • Educational credentials from recognized institutions certified by competent international or national authorities are accepted.
  • Candidates with certain relations to WFP staff members are ineligible to apply.
