Bridging Courses

The minimum criteria for admission to the bridge courses are:

Average KCSE grade of C+ or equivalent and at least a C- in the subject to be obtained or equivalent

Certified courses

Admission to certificate courses is based on one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • Average KCSE grade of C- or equivalent.
  • An average grade of Division III Level O’ or equivalent.
  • An A’ level qualification with a minimum of two secondary passes or equivalent.

Diploma Courses

Admission to the diploma courses is based on one of the following minimum qualifications:
KCSE C grade average.

  • KCSE average grade C- or equivalent plus a certificate
  • An O-level qualification with a minimum of Division III or equivalent
  • An A-level qualification with a minimum of two secondary passes or equivalent
  • Certificates must be from an institution recognized by the Senate of the University of Nairobi.
  • Certificates must have been obtained for a period of at least one semester.

Degree Courses

Admission to Bachelor’s degree programs is based on one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • Mid-range KCSE C+ or equivalent
  • KCSE grade average C- or equivalent plus a certificate and diploma
  • O Division II level or equivalent plus a degree
  • O Division III level or equivalent plus a certificate and diploma
  • O Division III level or equivalent plus a three-year degree from an accredited post-secondary institution for Bachelor of Education admission
  • Degree from the University of Nairobi or other recognized institutions and an addition of C in KCSE or equivalent
  • A level with two major passes or equivalent in relevant subjects. Only applicants whose results are available at the time of application will be considered.
  • CPAII/CPSII/CIPS or equivalent for Commerce and Arts and must have obtained a total of C in KCSE or Division III O level
  • P1 from a two-year post-secondary training institution for entry into the Bachelor of Education with a minimum grade point average of C or O from KCSE Division III
  • Higher National Diploma in relevant fields and should have obtained a total of C at KCSE
  • Degree from a recognized university
  • Equivalent titles to the previous ones from institutions recognized by the Senate
  • O Division III level or equivalent plus a three-year degree from an accredited post-secondary institution for Bachelor of Education admission
  • Degree from the University of Nairobi or other recognized institutions and an addition of C in KCSE or equivalent
  • A level with two major passes or equivalent in relevant subjects. Only applicants whose results are available at the time of application will be considered.

Foundation Courses

  • The university offers core courses in science and arts.
  • Candidates who score C- will be admitted to the foundation course as a prerequisite for university admission.

UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI, UoN POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Entry requirements for a Postgraduate Diploma degree Programme

Applicants for graduate degrees and certificates must hold at least one approved degree.

Program duration: 1 academic year

Entry requirements for a Masters Degree Programme

Applicants for masters programs must have obtained a minimum of an upper second class honors degree in the relevant discipline from the University of Nairobi or an equivalent qualification from institutions recognized by the Senate. Those with lower qualifications but postgraduate publications and post-Bachelor degrees are also eligible for admission.

Duration of Programme: 2 Academic Years

Entry requirements for a DBA or PhD degree programme

Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy degree must hold an MA from the University of Nairobi or an equivalent qualification from institutions recognized by the Senate. In addition, applicants must submit a research proposal demonstrating their ability to conduct original research.

Program duration: 36 months
