Project Accountant

Position: Project Accountant
Location: Batu Maung, Bayan Lepas, Malaysia
Type: National Contract

Overview:
WorldFish, a leading international research organization, seeks a motivated team player to manage financial operations for the Africa Portfolio (Malawi/Zambia/Others) and Global Bilateral Project and Initiatives Program. The role entails ensuring accurate accounting, compliance with donor regulations, and timely reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely submission of financial records and compliance with donor regulations.
  • Accurately account for project expenses and report to donors within agreed timelines.
  • Assist in project management and administration from initiation to closure.
  • Reconcile project bank accounts and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Update system with donor-purchased assets.
  • Ensure partner financial management compliance.
  • Assist Regional Finance and Operations Manager with financial and grants management.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and reporting of project activities.
  • Undertake other relevant duties to ensure efficient project implementation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or similar field, working towards qualification as a Chartered Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Proficiency in Office and Teams applications, and experience with ERP systems like Oracle and SAP.
  • Familiarity with international accounting standards (IFRS/IAS).
  • Strong command of English language, both written and verbal.
  • Experience working across geographical borders with professionalism and integrity.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in an international non-profit organization.
  • Experience with USAID/EU donor-funded projects.
