Summary:

UNHCR is seeking an Assistant Reporting Officer to join its team in Wadi Halfa, Sudan. The incumbent will support in gathering, analyzing, and disseminating information about UNHCR’s activities and response to forcibly displaced populations in the region. This role requires experience in communication, journalism, and proficiency in IT and computer literacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Information Management: Keep abreast with developments in the area of responsibility to prepare appropriate briefings and reports. Collect and draft required information for internal and external distribution.

  2. Stakeholder Coordination: Assist in organizing donor briefings and inter-agency meetings. Maintain working relationships with government agencies, NGOs, and UN agencies.

  3. Meeting Support: Draft and disseminate minutes of meetings held periodically in the duty station. Accompany visitors and colleagues on monitoring missions to refugee sites, providing appropriate briefing materials.

  4. Report Production: Draft updates, donor reports, background notes, briefing notes, and press reports. Produce reports on UNHCR activities and liaise with external partners on behalf of UNHCR.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, or relevant field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of previous work experience relevant to the function.
  • Proficiency in IT and computer literacy.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in hardship field locations and post-emergency operations, preferably in a non-camp setting.
  • Demonstrable skills in gathering information, analyzing facts, drafting quality reports, and presentation.
  • Knowledge of Arabic language is an asset.

Language Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English and/or UN working language of the duty station.
  • Knowledge of the local language is desirable.

Desired Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate would have previous experience working in hardship field locations and post-emergency operations. They should possess strong communication and analytical skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work flexibly in a diverse team environment. Knowledge of Arabic language and experience in data gathering techniques, including photography and drone operation, are advantageous.

Living and Working Conditions:

Wadi Halfa is located approximately 1,400 kilometers from Port Sudan, where the UNHCR Representation office operates. Staff members traveling from Port Sudan to Wadi Halfa should expect a two-day road journey. The office organizes transport for field trips to other localities within the Northern State. Accommodation options for internationally recruited staff are limited, and national staff are expected to rent apartments in Wadi Halfa town. Internet connectivity is available in the UNHCR office, but mobile phone network coverage may be unstable at times.
