Overview of Program

Program Focus:

  • Support Ministries of Health in Latin America & the Caribbean (LAC) to eliminate malaria and reduce the burden of other vector-borne diseases.

Projects:

  • Digital Health, Dengue, Essential Medicines, Medical Oxygen, among others.

Country Focus:

  • Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Ecuador, and others.

Role in Panama:

  • Assist the government in scaling up interventions for malaria elimination and reducing dengue incidence and mortality.

Overview of Role

Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as a trusted advisor to the government on vector control and entomological surveillance.
  2. Identify gaps in vector control and develop strategies to fill them.
  3. Assist in developing national vector control and surveillance plans.
  4. Plan for the introduction of new vector control tools.
  5. Develop annual work plans and budgets for vector control.
  6. Update vector control content in national guidelines and donor proposals.
  7. Support the selection and targeting of vector control interventions.
  8. Develop operational plans and training materials for vector control activities.
  9. Support monitoring of vector control interventions and entomological surveillance.
  10. Contribute to evaluating the impact of vector control interventions.
  11. Monitor and address threats to vector control, such as insecticide resistance.
  12. Contribute to drafting new project proposals and identifying funding opportunities.
  13. Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  14. Disseminate results and learnings through reports, publications, and presentations.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in relevant fields with 6-8 or 8+ years of experience, respectively.
  • Previous experience in Anopheles and Aedes control.
  • Willingness to travel frequently (~50% time).
  • Ability to translate scientific evidence into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and technical skills.
  • Strong organization, project management, and adaptability skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.

Advantages

  • MPH or MSc in vector control or entomology.
  • Experience working on Wolbachia.
  • Experience in countries in Latin America.
  • Experience working with government institutions on health matters.
