Overview of Program
Program Focus:
- Support Ministries of Health in Latin America & the Caribbean (LAC) to eliminate malaria and reduce the burden of other vector-borne diseases.
Projects:
- Digital Health, Dengue, Essential Medicines, Medical Oxygen, among others.
Country Focus:
- Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Ecuador, and others.
Role in Panama:
- Assist the government in scaling up interventions for malaria elimination and reducing dengue incidence and mortality.
Overview of Role
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the government on vector control and entomological surveillance.
- Identify gaps in vector control and develop strategies to fill them.
- Assist in developing national vector control and surveillance plans.
- Plan for the introduction of new vector control tools.
- Develop annual work plans and budgets for vector control.
- Update vector control content in national guidelines and donor proposals.
- Support the selection and targeting of vector control interventions.
- Develop operational plans and training materials for vector control activities.
- Support monitoring of vector control interventions and entomological surveillance.
- Contribute to evaluating the impact of vector control interventions.
- Monitor and address threats to vector control, such as insecticide resistance.
- Contribute to drafting new project proposals and identifying funding opportunities.
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Disseminate results and learnings through reports, publications, and presentations.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in relevant fields with 6-8 or 8+ years of experience, respectively.
- Previous experience in Anopheles and Aedes control.
- Willingness to travel frequently (~50% time).
- Ability to translate scientific evidence into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication, writing, and technical skills.
- Strong organization, project management, and adaptability skills.
- Fluency in Spanish and English.
Advantages
