Standard Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: University degree or similar, preferably in project management, logistics & supply chain, international development, data management, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language: Fluency in oral and written English and Swahili.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years working experience in project management, and a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience in humanitarian development or response capacity, preferably in logistics or emergency management.

Job Purpose
The role aims to support the project development and implementation of the Field Based Preparedness project (FBPP) in a sustainable long-term context. This involves supporting existing and building further national capacities and stakeholder networks to enhance emergency preparedness at the local level. The position acts as the Logistics Preparedness focal point linking with National Disaster Management Authorities (NDMA), National Disaster Management Organizations, and partner agencies.

Reporting Lines

  • WFP Country Office, Tanzania: Reports to the Preparedness Expert or Head of Supply Chain, and supports the Logistics Cluster/Sector Coordinator (in coordination with the Head of Supply Chain).
  • Global Logistics Cluster, WFP Headquarters: Reports to the Regional Logistics Cluster Officer or designated desk officer, ensuring alignment with the Global Logistics Cluster preparedness strategy.

Background of the Assignment
WFP, as the lead agency of the Logistics Cluster, is mandated to coordinate logistics preparedness activities and capabilities during large-scale complex emergencies and natural disasters. The Global Logistics Cluster preparedness strategy focuses on disaster-prone countries, including Tanzania, aiming to strengthen national stakeholders’ response capacity.

Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)

  • Ensure involvement of relevant stakeholders in Logistics Preparedness Working Group meetings.
  • Participate in scenario planning, preparedness planning, and response planning activities.
  • Collect, analyze, and upload data related to preparedness from partners.
  • Update, develop, test, and implement logistics tools, especially supporting the preparedness platform deployment.
  • Support project LogFrame activities, key performance indicators, and reporting.

Desired Experiences for Entry into the Role

  • Strong project management and inter-agency coordination skills.
  • Proficient writing skills for developing plans, guidelines, reports, and meeting minutes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships.
  • Proficiency in Windows, MS Office, and data management systems.
  • Knowledge in logistics operations and emergency response operations.
