This position is located in the Policy, Advocacy, Donor Relations and Outreach (PADROS) Section of the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), Office of the Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI), Department of Peace Operations (DPO) in New York. The incumbent will report to the Political Affairs Officer (Team lead). Established in 1997, the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) works to eliminate the threat posed by mines, explosive remnants of war and improvised explosive devices by coordinating United Nations mine action, leading operational responses at the country level, and supporting the development of standards, policies and norms. As a specialized service of the United Nations located within the Department of Peace Operations, UNMAS operates under UN legislative mandates of both the General Assembly and the Security Council. Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of programme strategies and policies related to mine action in coordination with other UN entities and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on programme management issues, including planning, budgeting, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of programme activities, ensuring compliance with established standards and guidelines.
  • Support resource mobilization efforts through donor relations, proposal development, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Contribute to advocacy and outreach activities to raise awareness of mine action issues and promote support for UNMAS initiatives.
  • Liaise with government authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and other partners to facilitate cooperation and coordination in mine action efforts.
  • Prepare analytical reports, briefings, and presentations on mine action topics for internal and external audiences.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, political science, public administration, business administration, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Job-Specific Qualification:

  • Certification or specialized training in programme management, project management, or related field is desirable.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in programme management, project coordination, or related field is required.
  • Experience in mine action, humanitarian affairs, or conflict/post-conflict settings is desirable.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.

Assessment:

  • Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise, which may be followed by competency-based interview.

  • Appointment against this post is on a fixed-term basis, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
