Job Description: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Project Management and Capacity Development Consultant to provide expertise in project management and capacity building initiatives. The consultant will play a key role in supporting UNEP’s programs and projects in Nairobi.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Management: Provide project management support, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of projects.
  2. Capacity Development: Develop and implement capacity-building initiatives to strengthen the skills and knowledge of project stakeholders.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement: Foster effective communication and collaboration with project partners, government agencies, NGOs, and other relevant stakeholders.
  4. Technical Assistance: Provide technical guidance and support to project teams in the areas of environmental management and sustainable development.
  5. Knowledge Management: Contribute to the documentation and dissemination of best practices, lessons learned, and success stories from projects.
  6. Reporting: Prepare regular progress reports, project updates, and other relevant documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  7. Resource Mobilization: Support efforts to mobilize resources and secure funding for project activities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in environmental science, development studies, project management, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of seven years of relevant experience in project management, capacity development, and sustainable development initiatives.
  • Skills: Strong project management skills, including planning, budgeting, and monitoring; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in multicultural teams; familiarity with environmental issues and sustainable development concepts.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English required. Knowledge of another UN language is an asset.

Duration: The consultancy is for a fixed-term period, with a duration to be determined based on project needs and funding availability.
