Description: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a qualified National Consultant to support the G20 Oceans initiative. The consultant will be based in Nairobi and will work under the guidance of UNEP’s G20 Oceans team.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support and expertise on ocean-related issues, with a focus on G20 priorities.
- Assist in the organization and coordination of meetings, workshops, and events related to the G20 Oceans initiative.
- Conduct research and analysis on ocean governance, marine biodiversity, sustainable fisheries, marine pollution, and other relevant topics.
- Support the development of policy briefs, reports, and other communication materials.
- Liaise with government agencies, international organizations, civil society, and other stakeholders involved in ocean conservation efforts.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in environmental science, marine biology, natural resource management, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience in ocean conservation, environmental policy, or related areas.
- Strong understanding of global ocean governance frameworks and initiatives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in English. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
- National of Kenya or legal resident with the right to work in Kenya.
