Position Overview:

As a Social Work Services Manager 2, you will be engaged in full-performance level social services work. Responsibilities include a variety of counseling, referral, placement, and/or adoptive functions related to services for children and youth, adults and the aging, the homeless, or services to incarcerated individuals. This role involves performing case management activities, assessing client and family needs, developing service and treatment plans, overseeing group activities, providing ongoing counseling and referral services, and determining appropriate placement actions.

This position is at a more advanced level compared to the lower tier, requiring individuals to handle more complex cases, exercise independent judgment, and apply a significant understanding of professional principles and departmental standards. Regular contact with individuals, their families, representatives of various private and public welfare agencies, representatives of professional and community groups, and the general public is a vital aspect of the job. Work is performed under general supervision from a technical superior.

Minimum Training, Education & Experience:

  • Education: Completion of a bachelor’s degree in social work, social services, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, behavioral health, public health, human services, human or child development, education, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Three years of case management work experience accrued after completing the bachelor’s degree program, involving various social services related to children and youth, adults and the aging, and/or correctional rehabilitation.

Additional Requirements for Bilingual Specialty:

For individuals applying to the bilingual specialty, proficiency in both English and the designated non-English language is required.

Physical & Medical Requirements:

  • Ability to physically perform duties and work in environmental conditions required for the position.
  • For positions at the Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Services Center, ability to physically restrain youths using medically reviewed and recognized Emergency Physical Safety Intervention (EPSI) techniques.

Required Licenses & Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, if required by work assignment.
  • For DHS positions, possession of Development of Trainer (DOT) certification is required.
