The Aga Khan Foundation’s International Scholarship Programme for 2024/2025

The Aga Khan Foundation’s International Scholarship Programme (AKF ISP) offers a unique opportunity for exceptional scholars from selected countries to pursue postgraduate education. Established in 1969 by His Highness the Aga Khan, the programme aims to support talented individuals who lack the means to finance their studies. Over the years, the AKF ISP has empowered more than 1,000 students to achieve their academic aspirations.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the AKF ISP award, applicants must:

  • Demonstrate excellent academic records.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training/professional experience.
  • Exhibit genuine financial need.
  • Construct a comprehensive funding plan.
  • Be admitted to a reputable postgraduate institution.
  • Possess strong leadership potential and a commitment to community service.

Preference is given to young professionals under 30 years of age.

Application Process:

Applications are managed by local units of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), or Aga Khan Education Board (AKEB). Applicants must liaise with the appropriate country-level entity to request an application form. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Award Conditions:

AKF ISP awards are structured as a combination of a grant and a loan. Recipients are required to repay 50 percent of the award amount. Scholarships for Master’s studies cover the entire duration of the degree course, while PhD scholarships are awarded for the first two years. The award includes tuition fees and living expenses but does not cover international travel or expenses for family members.
